ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION (RYA)
The overall authority that controls all the racing in the country is of course the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). This is no “old fashioned gentleman’s club”. The RYA has played a major part in the development of sailing in this country, the protection of the interests of sailors on both inland and offshore and lastly, but by no means least, overseeing the training and development of the sailors who have brought back 19 medals from the last four Olympic Games (Athens, Beijing, London & Rio) including HLSC member Stuart Bithell’s silver medal in the 470 Class at London 2012.
The RYA has recently produced a short video entitled Getting Started in Dinghy Sailing which tells you all you need to know to get started, from kit and cost to where and how. Click here if you wish to view the video. Remember that, as we are an RYA Recognised Training Centre then the courses we run are RYA courses. For details, please go to the Training at HLSC page of the website.
For more information please go to the Royal Yachting Association website.
HOLLINGWORTH LAKE WATER ACTIVITY CENTRE
The club is lucky in having close ties with the neighbouring Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre. The centre organises a large range of “on the water” and other outdoor activities.
At the centre there is dinghy sailing training at all stages from novice to advanced levels. They also offer training in windsurfing and canoeing. This is a possible way of providing you with the basic sailing skills that can then be improved upon at the Sailing Club.
For more information please go to the Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre website.
HOLLINGWORTH LAKE ROWING CLUB
Since it was founded back in 1872 HLRC has been committed to providing an environment for all levels of rowing. They teach people to row from junior, senior and veteran novices in both rowing and sculling disciplines. Their members range from those who want to keep fit and enjoy the fresh air and an active all round sport, to aspiring International and Olympic Athletes.
For more information please go to the Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club website.
